Every year, Porte Parole presents the Artful Citizen Award to honour someone whose imagination and personal commitment bring art and community closer together. In 2025, the award goes to Carla Beauvais — social entrepreneur and co-founder of Fondation Dynastie.

Carla Beauvais has been working for more than 20 years to make Québec’s culture more diverse and inclusive. As co-founder and executive director of the Dynastie Foundation, she has helped build a vibrant ecosystem for Black talent in the arts, culture, and media by creating spaces where their voices can be seen, heard, and recognized.
Carla Beauvais is what Porte Parole calls “a creative citizen.” She identifies how and why democracy does not function optimally, then implements solutions by leading ambitious projects herself. She takes responsibility for the world around her. Thanks to Carla Beauvais, Québec is a more resilient cultural space.

A Tailored Tribute
Each year, the Artful Citizen Award takes the form of a custom-tailored jacket, created by a Montreal designer. This unique garment — both functional and elegant — symbolizes a commitment shaped in the image of the person who wears it. It reflects the care, attention, and gratitude we offer to those who dedicate their time, energy, and imagination to the common good. A discreet yet meaningful award, it honours citizens who help shape our cultural life with generosity.

With this award, Porte Parole affirms that civic engagement can be approached with imagination, poetry, and humour, without giving in to cynicism. By highlighting unconventional paths, the Artful-Citizen Award celebrates those who make art possible by creating the conditions for audiences to encounter it.
This year, Carla Beauvais’s journey perfectly illustrates this belief: through her commitment, she transforms the spaces she creates into catalysts for change, paving the way for greater recognition of Black talent and a more inclusive cultural scene in Quebec.
