Job summary
The Director of Philanthropy and Strategic Partnerships leads Porte Parole’s philanthropic strategy and private fundraising activities. The role oversees major gifts, foundation partnerships, donor stewardship, campaign development, and strategic relationship-building in support of the organization’s artistic and strategic ambitions. It also proactively identifies emerging philanthropic opportunities and funding trends at the provincial and national levels. This is a unique opportunity to help shape the future of one of Canada’s leading documentary theatre companies during a significant period of organizational growth. We are seeking a strategic and relationship-driven fundraising leader to advance Porte Parole’s next phase of development. Reporting to Senior Management and collaborating with the Board of Directors, the Director of Philanthropy and Strategic Partnerships will lead the expansion of the organization’s private fundraising initiatives, including foundations, major gifts, annual campaigns, and strategic partnerships. This role will play a key role in advancing Porte Parole’s national philanthropic ambitions and deepening relationships with supporters across Canada.
Key responsibilities
Fundraising Strategy
- Lead the development and implementation of private fundraising strategies aligned with the organization’s strategic plan;
- Develop an annual philanthropic development plan and assess the annual revenue potential of private funding;
- Identify funding priorities (mission, projects, annual campaign, planned giving), and contribute to the design and implementation of the organization’s next major fundraising campaign (2026-2029);
- Identify and cultivate new funding opportunities, donors, and strategic partnerships;
Donor Relations and Stewardship
- Build and maintain relationships with foundations, major donors, sponsors, and philanthropic partners;
- Represent Porte Parole within philanthropic, cultural, and community networks;
- Design and oversee donor stewardship and recognition strategies that deepen long-term engagement;
- Lead the development of compelling donor communications, proposals, and stewardship materials;
Internal Collaboration
- Work collaboratively with senior staff, artists, and Board members on fundraising initiatives;
- Develop and monitor a donor recognition program;
- Plan donor events;
- Facilitate fundraising committee meetings and provide quarterly reports;
- Ensure compliance with requirements, commitments, and accountability obligations to donors and philanthropic partners;
- Produce performance reports and financial forecasts for philanthropic initiatives.
- Oversee the donor database and tax receipts.
Skills and leadership qualities
- Working knowledge of the Canadian and Quebec fundraising landscape and its specificities;
- Able to act skillfully, discreetly, and effectively in complex situations;
- Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders;
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams;
- Ability to manage multiple short- and long-term priorities simultaneously;
- Motivated and comfortable speaking about various social and political issues;
- Ability to identify innovative fundraising opportunities and develop strategic philanthropic initiatives;
- Entrepreneurial, proactive, and solutions-oriented;
- Results-oriented with strong strategic and organizational skills;
- Respects confidentiality for all information related to the performance of their duties.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree or certification;
- 10+ years of relevant experience in fundraising, philanthropy, partnerships, or cultural management, with concrete results demonstrating the amounts raised through campaigns (annual and recurring);
- Knowledge of the artistic community (an asset);
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office with proficiency with HubSpot, Zeffy or Asana an asset;
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills in both French and English.

Status: Full-time permanent position at 37.5 hours/week
Work location: Montreal, hybrid work
Salary: Starting salary of $90,000 with the potential for advancement based on performance.
