2025 Artful Citizen Award – Lucie LeBlanc

Portrait de Lucie Leblanc - Prix Citoyen·ne-Artiste 2025 - Porte Parole

Every year, Porte Parole presents the Artful Citizen Award to honour someone whose imagination and personal commitment bring art and community closer together. In 2025, the award goes to Lucie LeBlanc — a passionate theatregoer and true ambassador of Quebec’s theatre scene.

Since the late 1990s, Lucie has been organizing group outings to see plays in Montreal. What began as a simple outing among friends quickly grew into something much bigger. This season alone, she’s coordinating the purchase of nearly 3,000 tickets for her network, giving them access to over 80 different productions. Her thoughtfully curated selections offer a tour of the city’s theatres and a wide range of theatrical voices. Thanks to Lucie, hundreds of people discover the richness of Quebec theatre each year.

Lucie Leblanc reminds us that a single person’s passion can rally communities and make a tremendous impact on our society. On behalf of the many Quebec theatre companies who have benefitted from the audience groups Lucie has brought together since 1997, Porte Parole extends its deepest gratitude for her remarkable dedication.

A Tailored Tribute

Each year, the Artful Citizen Award takes the form of a custom-tailored jacket, created by a Montreal designer. This unique garment — both functional and elegant — symbolizes a commitment shaped in the image of the person who wears it. It reflects the care, attention, and gratitude we offer to those who dedicate their time, energy, and imagination to the common good. A discreet yet meaningful award, it honours citizens who help shape our cultural life with generosity.
This year’s jacket was crafted by tailor Jacques Doucet.

An award celebrating civic imagination

With this award, Porte Parole affirms that civic engagement can be approached with imagination, poetry, and humour, without giving in to cynicism. By highlighting unconventional paths, the Artful-Citizen Award celebrates those who make art possible by creating the conditions for audiences to encounter it.

This year, Lucie LeBlanc’s story beautifully reflects that spirit. What began as one woman’s enthusiasm for theatre has, over the years, opened its doors to hundreds of people.
