It's fun! And beyond that, the show raises essential questions about our understanding of social relationships and communication between cultures.

(...) this unsettling moral painting of our republic [is] a theatrical coup in which complex knowledge and intelligence do not stand in the way of entertainment.

Mathias Hejny, Abendzeitung

It's not about individual positions, not even about consensus, but about trying to get into conversation at all.

Christiane Lutz, Süddeutsche Zeitung

Based on transcripts from a real encounter that took place in Munich in March 2020, this verbatim play introduces four dynamic real-life citizens: Can, Zuhal, Katja, and Sigrid. Getting to know each other over a meal, they engage in a dialogue that’s both funny and tense on the issues that most divide them.

ZUHAL /// Straightforward– Individualistic– Politically unpredictable

Raised in Turkey and married very young, Zuhal settled in Germany with her now ex-husband. Although she was reluctant at first to learn German, she eventually did. She studied nutrition, found work and through hard work over the years rose to an executive position. To her, it’s clear that everyone makes his or her own luck.

SIGRID ///Cautious– Precise – Social-democrate

Trained as a lawyer, Sigrid quickly turned to politics. Initially elected under a conservative banner, she now represents a left-wing party. With no migratory background or any cultural crossbreeding, she describes her personal history as “boring”.

CAN /// Provocative – Committed– Left Conservative”

Born in Germany to Turkish parents, Can is a father of three and works in a large freight company. A practicing Muslim, he describes himself as a German “with additional cultural qualifications”. He has been greatly affected by the waves of refugees migrating to Germany in recent years and the social tensions that it stirred up.

KATJA ///Activist – Anarchist – Intent

Katja is 17 years old. She is finishing high-school and lives with her mother. As a child, she spent a few years in South Africa, her father’s homeland. Involved in many causes, she devotes her life to changing the world. And the sooner the better.
