Based on transcripts from a real dinner party that took place in Kaunas (Lithuania) in October 2021, this verbatim play introduces four dynamic real-life citizens: Rytis, Ginas, Liucija, and Rimas. Getting to know each other over the evening, they engage in a dialogue both funny and tense on the issues that most divide them.

The Assembly – Kaunas was nominated in a category of social impact performance at the Lithuanian golden stage cross awards

LIUCIJA  ///  Liberal – Courageous – Well thought-out

Liucija is a university student in her twenties. She is active in a liberal party and advocates for LGBTQ rights, which puts her at odd with her middle-upper class family. She likes to argue and is ready to defend her views views in a reasoned manner and she also thinks that every opinion should be heard.

RIMAS /// Frank – Self-asserted – Right-wing

Outside of his work as an engineer and his family life as a divorced father, Rimas trains in a volunteer militia group. A somewhat radical conservative, he is  pro- gun and ready to defend his country if need be. He loves to talk but he sometimes shows deafness to views different than his own.

GINAS ///  Curious – Conservative – Considerate

Ginas is about 17 years old and attends to a private Jesuit high school. He lives with his parents, who are religious and rather conservative. Though he first seems shy or introverted, he warms up during the dinner and proves to be openminded, ready to listen and eloquent.

RYTIS /// Energetic – Outspoken – Self-controled

An actor and a professional host, Rytis spent several years in the US before returning to his homeland. He loves to debate and holds strong opinions about many subjects. Though he can be very emotional, he tries to stay openmided.

Whether or not you share their opinions, we are convinced that they will inspire a desire to engage in this ongoing discussion.

Special thanks also to Aïsté and Henrikas, actors from Kaunas and moderators in this production.
