Written by Annabel Soutar and directed by Marc Beaupré, the documentary play Fredy explores the events surrounding the tragic death of Honduran-Canadian Fredy Villanueva, who was shot by a police officer in Montréal-Nord on August 9, 2008. Years later, are we able to put aside our fears and prejudices to speak candidly about his death?

Based on interviews, letters, court transcripts and news articles, playwright Annabel Soutar presents the results of her investigation into the circumstances that led to Villanueva’s death, the coroner’s inquest and public opinion over the years. By including divergent points of view, the play invites audiences to examine their pre-conceived notions and candidly reflect together on the controversial circumstances surrounding Villanueva’s death.
