In 1998, during Quebec’s provincial election, Annabel Soutar and Alex Ivanovici hit the road to ask a deceptively simple question: what does democracy mean to Quebecers? The journey led them across the province, gathering voices and stories that would become the raw material for Novembre, Porte Parole’s very first documentary play.

To mark the 25th anniversary of both Novembre and Porte Parole, we invited two young artists, Aude Seppey and Marc-Antoine Morin, to follow that thread into the present day. Like Annabel and Alex before them, they went out to meet their fellow citizens, testing the pulse of democracy in Quebec and asking what has changed — and what hasn’t — since 1998.

On February 9, we’ll return to the Monument-National, the venue where Novembre premiered in 2000. Aude and Marc-Antoine will join Annabel and Alex on stage to share their findings, and to open a conversation between two generations.

Novembre today

This winter, Porte Parole invited two young investigators to explore what democracy in Quebec looks like through the lens of their generation.

Aude Seppey, Investigator

A graduate of the Lionel-Groulx College’s Professional Theatre School in musical theatre and the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Québec in acting, Aude Seppey is a multidisciplinary artist — performer, singer, and creator.

She has participated in several collective creations, notably at Théâtre La Licorne (2017), Le Diamant (2020), and the Vieux Bureau de Poste (2022). In the summer of 2024 and 2025, she performs in PAYZAGES, a theatre-dance work for children. In February 2025, she takes on the leading role in her first original creation, Portes closes, a documentary autofiction presented at Théâtre Premier Acte in Quebec City. In 2026, she will appear in Féminicides, une histoire mondiale, produced by Théâtre de l’Impie (Quebec).

Alongside her artistic practice, Aude is active in political life, working at both the provincial and municipal levels.

Marc-Antoine Morin, Investigator

Marc-Antoine Morin is a Montreal-based artist who studied acting at Lionel-Groulx College’s Professional Theatre School and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur d’Art Dramatique (CNSAD) in Paris. His work spans theatre, screen, and voice performance, and sits at the intersection of acting and creation. He has developed socially minded projects such as the podcast Or je rêve and the Marathons de lecture, and champions a view of theatre as a vital democratic space — one that should be genuinely accessible to everyone. Morin is also deeply engaged in improving accessibility in performing arts venues. He advises, designs, and coordinates inclusion initiatives for institutions including Duceppe and the Centre du Théâtre d’Aujourd’hui.
