CALL FOR APPLICATIONS : Two investigators wanted to revisit Novembre, 25 years later

Bannière - Appel à candidature - Porte Parole cherche deux enquêteur·rice·s (18–30 ans) pour reprendre la route de Novembre

Porte Parole is seeking two people (18–30) to lead a short citizen-led investigation inspired by Novembre, the company’s very first play, which explored the state of democracy in Quebec.

Novembre

Back in 1998, during the Quebec provincial election, Annabel Soutar and Alex Ivanovici travelled across the province interviewing people from all walks of life to answer one big question: What does democracy mean to Quebecers?

By collecting these voices at such a pivotal moment, Annabel and Alex created a direct line between the public and the stage. Twenty-five years later, their approach continues to inspire new generations to think critically about democracy, listening, and civic participation.

The project

To celebrate Novembre’s and Porte Parole’s 25th anniversary, we’re launching a new, smaller-scale investigation inspired by that original journey. Just like Annabel and Alex in 1998, two young adults will set out to gather voices from across Quebec and find out how democracy has evolved—or not—over the past quarter century.

The four original questions (1998)

During their travels, Annabel and Alex asked people four central questions to take the pulse of Quebec democracy:

  • What is your relationship to the Quebec Government?
  • How does your voice contribute to our provincial democracy?
  • Who is defining the terms of political discussion in Quebec?
  • Has cynicism replaced participation at the heart of our political dialogue?

Public presentation

In collaboration with Porte Parole, the investigators will be invited to share your findings at a public presentation on February 9, 2026, at the Monument-National in Montreal, as part of Porte Parole’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

Who we’re looking for

  • 18 – 30 years old
  • Curious about Quebec’s political and social life
  • Comfortable on camera and with people
  • Strong listening skills, openness, creativity, and an investigative mindset

How to apply

  • Record a short video (max. 2 minutes) answering one of the original questions above
  • In a short text (200 words max), tell us why you want to be part of this project and what makes you a great fit for this mini-investigation
  • Include a CV (artistic, civic, or professional)
  • Propose one original question you would like to ask Quebecers today

Deadline

Deadline: December 10, 2025 (5 PM)
Send your video, your text, your CV and your new question to [email protected].

Together, let’s invite Quebecers to speak up and celebrate the voices shaping our province today!

Porte Parole is grateful to our donors for their support.
