Annabel Soutar is a playwright, director and theatre producer. In 2000 she founded Porte Parole with actor Alex Ivanovici and she has acted as Artistic Director of the Company since its inception.

Annabel Soutar was born and raised in Montreal. She studied English and Theatre at Princeton University where she completed her degree in 1994. While at Princeton, under the tutelage of renowned American playwright Emily Mann, Annabel learned about the documentary approach to theatre and since 1995 she has been applying it to plays she produces in Montreal. Her original plays, Novembre, 2000 Questions, Santé!, Seeds and Import/Export have been mounted in Montreal at the Monument-National, McCord Museum and at Espace Go in the 2008 edition of the Festival TransAmériques. Her play Seeds was named the best English production in 2005 by Montreal’s Association of French theatre critics and was nominated for Best New Text and Best English production by the Académie québécoise du théâtre. In 2003, Porte Parole was named ‘Theatre Company of the Year’ by the Montreal Gazette. Annabel is the recipient of several writing grants from both the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts. She is Chair of Concordia University’s Fine Arts Advisory and the President of the Quebec Chapter of Princeton Alumni.

Annabel is the proud mother of two girls – Ella aged 6 and Beatrice aged 4.
