With everything going on around former Liberal Justice Minister, Marc Bellemare and his allegations against Charest, it really looks like a can of worms has been opened on the political stage in Quebec. And it’s really getting muddy.
Fun fact! Did you know that “Bellemare was recruited by Charest in 2002, when the Liberals adopted as policy his proposal to allow lawsuits against drivers responsible for traffic accidents causing death or bodily injury. Charest dropped the idea when even private insurers said it would spell the end of Quebecs no-fault car insurance plan.”
Kevin Dougherty, The Gazette, April 22nd 2010
How ironic that Bellemare could potentially have changed the destiny of the Concorde victims by changing the no-fault car insurance and is now unveiling snippets of the corruption linked to the construction industry and the misgivings of the legal system.

But Bellemare, according to many including columnist Alain Dubuc du Soleil, is only the least of two evils. If 59% of people believe him compared to 14% in favour of Charest (Angus-Reid poll, La Presse April 15th), it’s only linked to the confidence crisis happening in Quebec as we speak. And only in Quebec, because in the rest of Canada, Charest is considered to be a nifty heir to Harper’s throne. He ranks third after Peter McKay according to this article by Philippe Authier in The Gazette.
Bellemare, on the other hand, although he is denouncing something that merits our complete attention, is getting a really bad rep for doing so. Weird timing? Political revenge…? Many potential motives have been implied to belittle his accusations and he probably isn’t as clean as anyone would like him to be. But what of this public inquiry on how judges get appointed, is this joke?
Alain Dubuc believes that if Charest was ready to launch an inquiry in this area, he must not have much to hide. But an inquiry on the construction industry, now that’s a different story and not a road Charest is willing to take.

So to sum this week up, we’ve got a political scandal on the federal level, one on the provincial level and now Quebec’s chief electoral officer is looking into whether Bellemare is guilty of a municipal scandal. WOW! You really wonder why people are so disillusioned by politics these days…!?
But the way I see it, the more we look away in disgust, the more they forge forward with lies, money laundering and power games.
Wake up everybody!!
